When it comes to movements in the squad, season 51 had its fair share of action at World Communism Team.
Teammate comrades Rogér Gadji, Donald Olorunleke and Silvino Passu were released to make space for the development of the team. While Kenyan youngster Sostenes Vadher was signed from the team’s talents pipeline.
Rogér Gadji and Donald Olorunleke subsequently left the world of cycling, while Silvino Passu had a short stint at Bor Gullet Cycling then later joined Puch Pro Racing.
Later in the season, it was realised that the team would not have the funds to train Sostenes Vadher to his best within a reasonable time frame, and therefore the rider was sold in a direct transfer to Laetta. This should be a much better choice of a team for this rider as that team already has some Cobbles focus.
He was replaced numerically in the squad with Mgeni Mkapa who was picked up from the hire list.
As the racing went, the team only started gathering some encouraging results towards the halfway mark of the season with two Division 8 wins for Xolani Lamola where the opposition from older teams having dropped to Division 8 did not make these victories easy to capture.
To be noted also that younger rider Yoweri Ayesu scored his first points at Division 7 level this season, with a very honourable 6th place in Longjiang – Daxingshan in China. This is an important result for World Communism Team, as there are high hopes for this rider to become the next captain of the squad.
Addis Gebreselassie also happened to score his first points in Division 7 during season 51. And even narrowly missed out on the team’s very first official result in the division, by landing a 4th place in Rundt om Vejle and by finishing 7th in Montego - Montpeller.
Shortly after these results Addis Gebreselassie finally closed in on this season 51 objective with an amazing 3rd place in Super Dolomiti.
This achievement astonished team chairman uMaliyasi, as the expectation was on Xolani Lamola to achieve this objective, but his younger teammate ended up achieving it first, in one of the very few races where he was lined up as a captain.
Which can only be a positive sign for the future of World Communism Team.
The very last race of the season was also a big success, as for the first time, the team had two riders scoring points in one Division 7 race, with Yoweri Ayesu finishing 4th, and Xolani Lamola finishing 6th in Anderberg Special Nybro.
This result saw the team narrowly promote to Division 6, for the second time in its young history.
